Fluõ

Dive into the inspiration

The collection consists of 11 Couture silhouettes that illustrate liquid motions in nature. Elements such as water cascading down a waterfall and lava running across volcanic ashen ground. Or white icy snow sparkling in the sunlight and billowing kelp forests entangling with the ocean’s current. The materials of Fluõ are handmade, woven or quilted, using braiding and weaving hair in various gradients, colours and shines. Interlacing liquescent fibres into rich tapestries.

Translucent layers of glass organza cover degradé braiding hair, carefully placed in wavelike patterns and hand quilted into an airy and light fabric. Creating depth and at the same time a reflective surface like water. Ombré braiding hair, in various pigments of blue seeping into one another, is handwoven onto printed wax cotton.

Slowly revealing multi-coloured motifs of foliage and blossoming florals. Gradients spill from black to burgundy to bright red, embraced by entwining silk drapes in shades of maroon, copper and burnt orange. Like magma slowly moving across the earths surface. Shiny ivory fibres are applied onto transparent silk organza, creating a lustrous mother of pearl effect. Glacial grottos come to life when this luminous textile is hand embroidered with swarovski crystal droplets. Causing a refraction of precious jewels submerged in water. Dark blue and cyan fibres shimmer like bio-luminescent plankton illuminating the ocean at night. The materials create an intricate texture, ebbing and flowing across the surface of it’s base, held in place by endless lines of stitching. Threading water into place, constructing a layered combination of fluidity and geometry.

Silhouettes are meandering around the body, flowing down or curvaceously embracing it. Silk georgettes and crêpes stream down and spill onto the floor. Fluid as the shapes are, they concurrently show an opposing notion of linear and diagonal cuts and seams. This feature arose in the repetitive stitches of the handwoven and quilted textiles. It was then transferred to details, cuts and seams within the collection to play with this elements of contradiction.
Nature is full of contradictions and in Fluõ, earth’s elemental forces collide.
